Venue Events Staff - Student Staff (Zero Hour Contract)

Asylum are on the look-out for student staff to work across the venue, the box office, quiz and social media.

Do you have an interest in live music and events? From live music to club events, we are looking for people looking to take their first steps (or maybe continued steps) alongside their academic studies, working for an established venue across all areas including the box office, quiz and social media.

We pride ourselves in our ever-growing event schedule and are looking for key members to grow our team as well as offering an opportunity to help gain industry knowledge.

This role will start from September 2026, so if you will be a student at the University of Hull for the 2026-27 academic year then you are an ideal candidate for this role.

What You'll Be Doing

Your role will vary depending on the event and your skills, offering experience across different aspects of venue operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the set-up and preparation of live music events, managing the set- up of technical equipment including responsibility for PA, lighting of Hull University Student Union events, from Bongo’s Bingo, Live Music to general club nights like Tower.
  • Welcoming customers and providing excellent customer service throughout their visit.
  • Operating the box office, including ticket sales, collection and customer enquiries.
  • Managing customer ingress and supporting venue entry procedures.
  • Running cloakroom operations during events.
  • The delivery of live events, with sound and lighting.
  • Assisting artists, promoters and production crews where required.
  • Supporting venue operations before, during and after events.
  • Creating engaging content for our social media channels and interacting with our online community.
  • Maintaining a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for customers, performers and colleagues.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for people who are: 

  • Passionate about live music, nightlife and events.
  • Experience with any of the following:
    Lighting, sound and power
    Lighting Control Systems
    Good IT Skills
    Confidence to liaise with production teams and students
  • Friendly, approachable and confident communicating with customers.
  • The Ability to work under pressure and use their own initiative.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Keen to learn new skills and take on a variety of responsibilities.
  • Interested in developing experience within the live events, music or entertainment industries.
