Become a HUSU Champion and work with the Membership Services Team to be the driving force behind creating an exciting, welcoming space where students dive into activities, volunteering, and representation — helping to make Freshers Hull and every day on campus unforgettable!
A little bit about us
Hull University Students’ Union is a Charity, with a large Commercial subsidiary; our primary purposes are:
- Advancement of education, promoting the interests and welfare of students during study and representing, supporting and advising students.
- Being the recognised representative channel between students and the University of Hull and other representative bodies.
- Providing social, cultural sporting, recreational activities, and forums for discussions and debate for the personal development of its students.
Our Commercial Subsidiary provides a range of services for students including, a Supermarket, a pub, a nightclub, coffee and food outlets.

About the Role
These are part time positions and you will need to be available to work from 13th September. Training for the role is paid and a date will be set in due course. You must attend training in order to take up the role.
If successful at the interview you will be allocated one or several roles which may include:
Distributing materials and engaging face to face with students on campus to promote Freshers Hull 2025.
Information Point Advisors
Acting as an advisor at Hull University Students’ Union information points on campus. Answering questions, signposting students, queue busting and sharing details of our services.
Lecture Shoutout Team
Attending lectures in person or digitally to give a short presentation on the Students’ Union, the services, support and representation we provide.
Freshers Hull Fair Team
Facilitating, and monitoring to maintain a safe environment and supporting at the Freshers Hull Fair.
Freshers Hull and Beyond…
In addition, we will be seeking a number of successful candidates to become part of a pool of student staff to work in Membership Services throughout the year. This may include:
• Event Support and Promotions
• Volunteer Promotions
• University Open and Applicant days.
• Elections.
• Research and Admin tasks.
Responsibilities: -
1. Organisational/service development
• Work as a member of HUSU’s Membership Services Team to support the provision of a broad variety of support, activities and representation to meet the needs of our diverse population. To contribute to the team achieving strategic outcomes.
• Build and maintain relationships with HUSU key stakeholders, in particular students/members.
2. Service delivery
• Promote activities and events to students through face-to-face and digital engagement, including Freshers Hull, elections, volunteer and rep recruitment, sports, societies, events and awards nominations (list not exhaustive).
• Promote the independent, impartial advice available through the HUSU Advice Centre to students through face-to-face and digital engagement.
• Lead and support events, ensuring the health and safety of participants and providing practical event support.
• Attend meetings as an observer and note-taker to support the work of representatives.
• Support President and student-led campaigns with research, planning and consultation activities.
• Provide students’ union tours and answer queries from students and prospective students and their families about Hull University Students’ Union services during events such as Freshers Hull, Open Days, and Applicant Days.
• Conduct research and draft reports on a range of topics including external speaker requests from student groups, and the work of other students’ unions to inform service development and improvement.
• Carry out data entry and collate feedback from surveys, focus groups and other evaluation techniques.
3. Reporting and information management
• Contribute to ongoing monitoring, evaluation of Membership Services activities through regular feedback to supervisory staff and contributions at event debrief meetings.
4. Leading a team.
• Lead events and activities, including supervising activities both on and off campus.
• There is no line management responsibility associated with this role.
5. General duties and responsibilities
• Ensure confidentiality at all times in the handling and dissemination of information and data, and embedding and implementing GDPR across the workload.
• Carry out all duties in line with HUSU’s policies and in line with the organisation’s values and strategic aims.
• Ensure the Health and Safety policy and procedures are followed at all times.
• Carry out any other duties as may be required from time to time under the overall scope of the role.

About You
Essential
Qualifications/Training
• Currently studying at the University of Hull
• Completed at least one year at the University of Hull
Experience
• Customer service experience
• Experience of working in promotions or event support
Essential skills/abilities/knowledge
• Knowledge of Hull University Students’ Union and our services
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Good and confident communication skills – both verbal and written
• Good knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office software
• Friendly and enthusiastic
• Good attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills
• Adaptable and flexible
• Helpful and willing to learn, including completing all mandatory training in a timely fashion
• Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality at work and when handling data
• Flexibility to work some evenings and/or weekends
Desirable
Experience
• Experience of supervising trips and events
