Competition Coordinator Intern

Hull University Students’ Union is seeking a proactive and creative Competition Coordinator (Intern) to support and grow our new online prize competition site. This is a varied and exciting role that blends marketing, digital operations, and customer engagement. You will be responsible for working within our competition platform setting up draws, monitoring ticket sales, and ensuring a smooth customer experience. You'll also contribute to designing competitions, selecting prizes, using marketing data to reach new audiences, and engaging with customers through live draws and regular updates.

Hull University Students’ Union is a Charity, with a large Commercial subsidiary; our primary purposes are:
- Advancement of education, promoting the interests and welfare of students during study and representing, supporting and advising students.
- Being the recognised representative channel between students and the University of Hull and other representative bodies.
- Providing social, cultural sporting, recreational activities, and forums for discussions and debate for the personal development of its students.

Responsibilities
Competition Management & Administration
- Manage day-to-day operations of online competitions via specialist competition platforms/software.
- Monitor ticket sales and troubleshoot technical or customer-related issues.
- Collaborate with the wider team to design compelling competitions and select attractive prizes.
- Schedule and host live draws, ensuring winners are randomly selected and publicly announced.
Marketing & Customer Acquisition
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns to drive ticket sales across social media, email, and digital platforms.
- Identify and attract new customer segments using data-driven insights.
- Create engaging content and promotions to boost brand visibility and reach.
- Work closely with students and staff to create engaging content and showcase how profits are used to support groups’.
Data & Analytics
- Use tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager, and other platforms to track campaign performance and customer behaviour.
- Report on key metrics (CTR, conversions, ROI) to optimise future marketing spend.
- Analyse sales data to inform future prize and campaign strategies.
Customer Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with our community of competition entrants.
- Ensure timely and engaging customer communication including pre-draw updates, draw results, and winner follow-ups.
- Respond to customer enquiries through social media, email, and other channels.
Essential Criteria
- Experience in digital marketing (social media, email, or paid advertising).
- Experience of creative marketing campaign planning (University assignments included).
- Confident in using online tools and platforms including Google Analytics and social media platforms, including brand specific features and functionality for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and more.
- Proficient in technology administration tasks.
- Proven ability to learn new software quickly.
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and on camera (for draws/live streams).
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office.
- Creative flair and a keen eye for what makes prizes and campaigns attractive to a wide audience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Desirable Criteria
- Experience managing online competitions or e-commerce platforms.
- Familiarity with online competition software WooCommerce plugins.
- Skills in basic design (e.g. Canva) or video editing for social content.
- Understanding of legal requirements around online competitions and promotions.
- Knowledge and understanding of Hull University Students’ Union (HUSU), its purpose, and its values.
